Manual Lymphatic Drainage
A specialised, gentle technique that stimulates the lymphatic system to reduce swelling, clear stagnant waste and ease inflammation — leaving you lighter, calmer and functioning at your best.
Using light, rhythmic movements, MLD encourages the natural flow of lymphatic fluid by up to 30%, guiding excess fluid away from congested areas towards healthy, functioning lymph vessels where it can be properly processed by the body. The result is reduced puffiness, a strengthened immune system and a deep sense of relaxation.
A full-body, holistic treatment tailored to your needs, MLD supports post-surgery recovery, relieves the heaviness of lipoedema, and helps anyone who spends long hours on their feet, travels frequently, or retains fluid in warmer weather. Performed directly on the skin without oils, each session works with your body's own rhythm to calm the nervous system and restore balance from the inside out.
Available in Crouch End, North London.
FAQs
What is MLD?
1
MLD is a specialised, gentle form of massage used to stimulate the lymphatic system. It uses light, rhythmic movements to stretch the skin and encourage the movement and natural flow of lymphatic fluid — up to a 30% increase. It reduces swelling, aids in clearing stagnant waste from the tissues, and helps to ease inflammation.
How does MLD work?
2
Unlike traditional Swedish or deep tissue massage, MLD is performed directly on the skin without using oils. The technique stretches the skin using very light pressure to manually guide the lymph fluid towards particular 'drop-off points'.
Why would you get MLD?
3
To move excess fluid from congested or swollen areas towards healthy, functioning lymph nodes, where it can be properly processed by the body.
To support and improve the immune system.
Post-operative care — to help with healing and reduce post-op oedema (swelling).*
Wellness and relaxation — MLD stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), which can help reduce stress and promote relaxation.
Lipoedema - to relieve associated pain and help with heaviness in affected limbs.
*Post-surgery: MLD is generally recommended from 8 weeks post-surgery. Please contact me directly if you're looking to have MLD after surgery — a doctor's or surgeon's note may be required.
Who is MLD good for?
4
Lipoedema sufferers — while MLD cannot remove lipo fat, it can relieve associated pain, reduce inflammation and decrease fluid build-up. It can also help ease the heavy, aching feeling in affected limbs.
People who spend a lot of time on their feet — due to gravity, lymph can pool in the lower legs and feet, causing heaviness and swelling.
People who hold onto more fluid during hotter periods.
People who travel a lot — long flights can cause significant swelling in the feet and ankles.
Which areas of the body are worked on?
5
This is a full-body treatment, which means we work on the arms, abdomen, legs, back, neck and face — wherever there is a concentration of lymph nodes. As always, treatments are holistic, so problem areas can be given extra focus and the treatment can be tailored to your specific needs.
What can I expect after my treatment?
6
You may feel you need to go to the loo a little more frequently — this is completely normal.
Try to take it easy for the remainder of the day and avoid high-intensity activities.
